Kassiopi is a very beautiful harbour surrounded by hills. The village
is quite large and has many tavernas, bars, restaurants, clubs, ice cream
parlours, souvenir shop, etc. Kassiopi has a long history that goes back
beyond Roman times when Tiberius built a villa there. Nero is another
emporer who visited Kassiopi. Very little evidence of this survives today
however and all that is left now is a very pretty sixteenth-century church
and the ruins of a castle on the hill. Kassiopi is not renowned for it's
beaches but there are small ones nearby. Kassiopi still retains narrow
winding roads which are great fun to explore or there are several nice
walks that take you into the hills. Many of the trips available from other
Corfu resorts come to Kassiopi. The harbour often has boats from all
over the Mediterranean stopping for short visits as well as the local
fishing boats. The bleak Albanian coast is only a short distance away
and looks like another planet.
