Peroulades, Canal De Amour and Melitsa - Places To Visit.
Corfu - Peroulades, Canal De Amour and Melitsa - Corfu
Local Places to Visit.
Peroulades
Peroulades Village has many
small paths that twist and turn amongst the old cottages. Many date back
hundreds of years. Over the last few years some have received
a lot of
attention
but there is still a lot to be done. Many are in great need of
complete
renovation.
Dotted around the countryside on the outskirts of the village small
plots of land are still used by families to grow there tomatoes,
sweet corn, cucumbers, etc. There are goats everywhere you
go calmly feeding or waiting to be milked. Chickens are kept in little
back gardens for eggs and of course a good stew now and then.
Canal De Amour
The Canal De Amour is about 500 m North of
Sidari.
The natural sea and wind worn
cliffs have eroded into weird almost alien shapes. The name Canal De
Amour comes from the belief that swimming through a natural
archway that has now vanished brought eternal love.
The area above the cliffs has many tavernas where you can
eat anything from a light bar meal to many Greek specialities.
There are many little
inlets
for a quiet stroll in the evening or walk along the cliff tops and
enjoy the view.
Longas (Sunset) Beach - Peroulades
Longas Beach
more commonly know as Sunset Beach has always been the
highlight to any trip to Corfu. Peroulades is about 3Km from
Sidari and 2Km from the Canal - De - Amour area. The view
of the sunset over the islands is always very beautiful but
when the cloud conditions are right it is out of this world.
The beach can be reached by a steep path and the view along
the cliffs is worth seeing. Once you have climbed back to the
top you will be glad of the taverna that is there to have a drink.
One of the finest on the island.
Cape Drastis - Peroulades
Cape Drastis has not been touched by tourism. It is not easy
to get to unless you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle or sturdy
motorbike. It is about 2 Km past Peroulades along a very
primative dirt track. It can be walked in about 45 minutes from
Peroulades. After a long climb uphill and then down to the
tiny cove you will see where
many a smugglers boat has
landed over the years. An idea of the distance can be gained by looking
at this
photograph
that shows Cape Drastis on the left and Peroulades on the right.
Longas Beach is in the valley behind the first hill on the left.
Sidari
Sidari is the place for night life if you want a disco or nightclub.
Almost every other building is either a bar, club, restaurant or
taverna. Many of the tavernas reach down to the sea shore.
There is go karting, boat trips, the water slide, horse riding,
parasailing and many other attractions to keep a holiday packed with
entertainment.
Sidari has two large supermarkets which are very good value
and the only two petrol stations for miles around. Sidari is young
and full of life most of the 24 hours.
